How to Make Better Drops on Push 3 Standalone
Jul 23, 2025
Live sets on Push 3 can sound incredible – but if you’ve ever tried building up a massive drop and then transitioning into the next scene, you know how easy it is to mess up the reset.
Most producers solve this with dummy clips in Ableton Live. But let’s be honest – transferring a whole set over just to sort transitions? Bit of a faff.
Here’s a cleaner, faster way to do it on the Push 3 Standalone itself.
1. Use Follow Actions on the Push 3
This feature is new for Standalone and lets you automate what happens after a clip finishes. We’ll use this to jump from an FX-heavy macro variation back to a clean reset.
2. Add FX from the Core Library DJ racks
Go to:
Device > Packs > Core Library > Audio Effects > Performance and DJ
There’s a goldmine of racks here – stuff like “Wash Out” that makes a perfect build FX.
3. Add an Auto Filter before the Wash Out
Use a high-pass filter to clear the low end. This stacks well with the reverb/delay of the Wash Out FX.
4. Group them into an FX Rack
Hold shift, select both devices, and group them. Then map the key parameters (filter freq, wash amount) to the same macro knob.
5. Limit the filter’s max range
Tweak the macro mapping so you don’t overdo the high-pass filter – set the max to ~200 Hz for a more usable sweep.
6. Add macro variations
Set one variation with the macro at full (for the build) and one with it at zero (the reset). Now you can jump between them with one tap.
7. Automate with Follow Actions (optional)
If you want it to reset automatically after a set time, use a Follow Action to trigger the reset variation.
Wrap-up:
Now you've got a way to do builds and clean resets on Push 3 without fiddling mid-performance – or bouncing between hardware and Live.
